You smell something musty and recognize that you need mold removal services. It can be a bit scary to think about how much something like that could cost. Sometimes insurance will cover the cost of mold removal but if you don’t want to deal with insurance, you might have to spend a pretty penny. Mold is something you want to keep outside of your home. When the need for removal is necessary, you want to be sure that the job is done in the most effective manner. That doesn’t mean you should have to spend thousands of dollars.

Keep in mind that mold is nature’s way of breaking down decaying material. That’s why it only grows on porous surfaces such as wood and paper. If your mold is not airborne, it is spread through actions such as ripping out old carpet and putting in new carpet. If you don’t do an effective job of cleaning up before you put down your new carpet, you’ll continue to have mold issues. With that in mind, look at the costs of individual services that you might need.

If you suspect mold and aren’t sure about where it is or what kind it is, you need an environmental inspection and that costs between two to four hundred dollars. After you have your inspection, you’ll have a better idea of how much removal costs. There are three things that affect the cost of your repairs.  How much mold is there? If you have it all over the place, it’ll take much longer to remove. If you have it in one contained place, it takes much less time. You are paying for time and chemicals that the project requires.

The next thing that mold removal services look at is what kind of mold is there? When you have green mold, it’s usually because it’s in cold, wet, damp places. It’s not the cheapest or the most expensive. The cheapest to remove would be yellow mold. It’s the most common type of mold and does not cost as much money. The third and most expensive kind is black mold. It takes a lot of time and money to remove and should only be taken care of by a professional.

After you have determined the amount and type of mold, the last thing is to determine why you have mold. You might have to pay for mold removal services to tear out a whole wall or fix surface issues. There are also other possible issues such as getting a leaky pipe fixed. Costs are all over the place but first, attack the problem head on. Find out the answers, and then worry about the cost.
